Stock Update

Getting ready to send some beer out to a friend I hit a few stores this week.  Thursday, I hit Sal’s Beverage World in Elmhurst, they have a decent selection of craft beer, I grabbed the 3 Floyd’s Dreadnaught that I needed and while I was there, I noticed they had DogFish Head Olde School, a barley wine style ale that had 11/21/08 on the label as the bottling date, not knowing anything about this beer, I texted my DogFish Head expert friend, he responded with an “OMG Buy” so we’ll split the 4-pack.  I’m pretty interested to see how the aging has changed this beer.  Though I don’t know how it tasted originally, I’ll have to check some of the old reviews.

On the way home Friday, I stopped at Discount Liquor in Milwaukee, I grabbed some Oskar Blues Dale’s Pale Ale, my first craft beer cans I have purchased, these I’m taking to the Brewers game tailgate on Saturday. I also grabbed a 6-pack of Weyerbacher Verboten and a bomber of 3 Floyd’s Oatgoop which is according to the commercial description:

This is a joint adventure between Three Floyds in Munster Indiana & Mikkeller in Copenhagen, Denmark an Oat Wine sold in 22 oz bottles only and brewed and bottled at Three Floyds.

Lastly, I bought a Delirium Tremens glass, a Belgian snifter.  The pink elephant has arrived!

Friday night while watching the Brewers come back to beat the Pirates, I sampled 3 Floyd’s Blackheart, an English style IPA. This brew as it warmed in the glass the alcohol would move more to the front and bite more.  You can pick out the malt sweetness and it doesn’t have as much hop bitterness as American style IPA’s.  Good beer, 7/10.

From the reviews and having it aged, I am looking forward to it.
