Hockey, beer, and a movie

Saturday afternoon, had some free time after picking my brother up from Milwaukee, decided to stop at Discount Liquor on Oklahoma in Milwaukee.  One of my favorite places to pick up beer, not only for their selection, but their prices are good too.  They had a lot more 3 Floyd’s than I remember, grabbed a Blackheart (English Style IPA) and Moloko Milk Stout (for a friend).  Also grabbed Lakefront Brewery’s new Fixed Gear (American Red Ale), Founder’s KBS (Kentucky Bourbon Stout Ale), Lagunitas Wilco Tango Foxtrot (Ale), Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA and Bell’s Batch 9,000 (Ale).  Also purchased a Duvel tulip glass for tasting beer at home.  Just a note, all these beers are a hair lighter in color than they show in my pictures, I need to setup a white box I think to get better color representations in the future.

While watching the UW Badgers NCAA regional final game against St. Cloud State, I tried a few brews, trying to utilize my new Duvel tulip.  First up, Dogfishhead 90 min IPA, which I may have had before, can’t remember, beer does that, along with excessive use of commas.  The 90 min IPA is sweeter than other IPA’s I’ve had, not overly strong so you can have more than one, a solid 8/10.

Next up, River Horse Double Wit, a Belgian Style Ale, received in a trade with my good friend Guy.  Not sure where to start, tasty is a good place.  Smooth and sweet would be other ways to describe this refreshing beverage, would drink this again if available. Rating is a 8/10, thanks Guy!

Last beer of the night, Lakefront Brewery’s new Fixed Gear American Red Ale.  I used the Duvel tulip, probably not the proper glass, but hey, drinker’s choice I guess.  Bitter is my first impression, so the hops are noticeable, smooth aftertaste.  Lakefront is pretty steady so I was interested to try this one out, it doesn’t disappoint, 8/10.  Now to finish the bomber during the UW/SCSU third period, Badgers up 3-1 and going on the power play.

Badgers win and move on to the frozen four in Detroit.  I know the title mentions a movie, but I’m not sure if I can state what I just saw just yet, I need to digest it a little further.  I watched “Beer Wars” and to say I learned a lot would be an understatement.  I think I might need to save that for another post.
